Completed Radiator wallThe smoke and oil filter: Health and safety insisted that we installed this monster extractor system due to the new regulations which can filter out smoke and oil before it is vented outside.

Installation of the extractor system: They were still working at 11 pm until we told them to go home since it probably wasn’t helping our relationship with our neighbours.Installation of the extractor system: Work continues on the roof with the second ring road visible behind us.

Mess on the Roof: The workers have really left a mess and we spent a day cleaning it all up. Our relationship is begining to sour now.

More photos from 11 July

These 21 photos never made it into the café’s online albums; they turned up in a folder of my old Vineyard Cafe files.

And a short video from that evening at the café:

This post first appeared on the Vineyard Cafe blog as a photo album in July 2006. Vineyard Cafe was the restaurant I opened in a Beijing hutong in 2006 with Will and Xuduan, and while we built it we kept a blog and a weekly photo album of our progress. The blog is long gone, so I have brought it back here. See the whole Vineyard Cafe story.
